Who we are

Ostertag Concrete traces its roots back to 1987 when brothers Tim and Chris Ostertag founded Ostertag Cement in Rosemount, Minnesota. After years of learning the trade under their father’s successful concrete business, which they began working for at the age of 12, the brothers decided to continue their family’s legacy when their father retired in 1986. With the support of a few friends and relatives, they launched Ostertag Cement in the spring of 1987.

Over the next two decades, Ostertag Cement grew to become one of the largest and most respected residential concrete subcontractors in the Twin Cities Metro area. Specializing in poured wall foundations and flatwork, the company set the standard for quality and reliability, partnering with some of the region’s best homebuilders. With over 10,000 foundations installed to date, the company became a cornerstone of the residential concrete industry, earning a reputation for exceeding customer expectations and delivering exceptional results.

Tragedy struck the company in July 2023 when co-founder Chris Ostertag passed away after a battle with cancer. Tim Ostertag continued to lead the company for another year, maintaining the high standards and legacy they had built together. In the fall of 2024, Tim made the decision to retire, marking the end of an era.

Recognizing the strength of the Ostertag name and its reputation, Tim Hamill and Shaun Johnson, owners of Hamill Concrete, acquired Ostertag Cement. The company was restructured into two divisions: the poured wall foundation division was absorbed into Hamill Concrete, while a new company, Ostertag Concrete, was created to continue the flatwork division. This transition ensured the Ostertag legacy would live on, carrying forward the values and standards that had defined the company for nearly four decades.

Today, Ostertag Concrete continues to build on its storied history, honoring its founders' commitment to excellence while forging a new path under the stewardship of Tim Hamill and Shaun Johnson.
